Last Tuesday, there was another highlight. After last Sunday (Switchfoot Concert), I was not able to speak properly anymore and my legs and arms hurt as hell, but I was happy. Two concerts with such a short time in between…
First, this concert was planned to take place in Oron-la-Ville (possibly the smallest village in Switzerland…), so I did not want to go. After Hillsong Live, it would have been too expensive to visit that place again! But then, I paid for another concert and saw an advertisement for Darlene Zschech in Winterthur, Zurich. Thing is, Darlene certainly will not be in Switzerland for two different worship evenings, so I checked the page of the concert agency.
A cause des raisons involontaires de notre part le concert de Darlene Zschech le 22 novembre est annulé. Elle sera en concert à Winterthur ce 22 novembre.
“Because of inadvertent reasons from our side, the concert of Darlene Zschech of the 22 November is cancelled. She will be in concert in Winterthur this 22 November.” I could not believe it and immediately bought my ticket. Is it luck? Is it a coincidence? Or is it something more?
I am a person who is always too early. At least ten minutes for everyday life, normal waiting time for concerts is 2-4 hours for me.
I already thought I was too late, because I arrived at the location only (!!) 2.5 hours early, after nearly getting lost in the town… However, there were only people with material for the evening or people who wanted to attend a worship workshop. It was a cold, foggy evening, it was getting dark and I slowly started freezing. Luckily, a woman of the team of that church asked me if I wanted to wait inside in the lounge. So I took a seat there and waited. And waited. And waited. I watched the setting up, but somehow it was a bit boring. A man with white hair sat down next to me. I had seen him being involved with the set-up and thought he must be one of the owners of the hall, because he was not wearing a rhyner-tshirt. He started talking to me, asked why I was already there, where I came from, etc. Finally someone was talking to me! I love meeting people and getting to know them, but if they are busy, I do not want to get in their way. He then left again, obviously because he had other stuff to do. People started to come into the lounge and we all started queuing for wristbands. You needed them in order to be let into the big hall. When I finally got mine, my seat was taken. So I decided to just stand there, waiting. I saw the man with white hair talking to the doorman. “Where is the photographer gone?”, he asked, both of them looking in my direction. I must have had looked somehow bemused, so the white-haired man came to me again, whereas the doorman went into the hall to search the photographer. The man said to me: “You know, it is important for the organisers. You are the super-fan, being here so early, so there should be a picture of you…”. I tried to explain that I was not an actual fan, that I just wanted to get to the front, but he said that did not matter. The photographer turned up and tried to find a suiting place for a picture. I asked them where they would put my photo and they explained that it would not appear anywhere, it would just be for the organisers and I did not have to worry about it. Fact is, I do not worry about finding pictures of me on the web (I even appeared in the Daily Mail once!), I just want to have the picture. I told him, we took the picture and we exchanged email addresses. I got sent my picture a few days later on. It is a wonderful one, big thanks to Dani Junker (http://www.djunker.ch/)! Then, I went back to standing around.
At about 18:30 (door opening at 19:00), the white-haired man came to me again. He said: “Now you have been here so early, you should have this one!”, showing me his V.I.P.-All-Access badge. I said: “Well, I do not, so I cannot go in there anyway…”. He: “Come with me…”. A bit bemused and surprised, I followed him. We went to the doorman, he explained him that I was allowed to enter the hall, and the doorman let me in. What a great feeling! There were only technicians and the main organiser of the event. He looked at me and said: “There is not much going on in here.”. But I did not care. I was just extremely happy to be in the hall as the first one. A few minutes later, the white-haired man came into the hall with another girl. They were talking in Standard German, but I did not really listen. When the man had left, the girl came up to me and asked (in German): “Have you not been to the Hillsong concert?” I could not believe it. It was the girl who was standing behind me and my friend at the concert and also, she had shared the B&B with us there! We soon continued talking in English (as it was the language we both knew better than Standard German. My German accent is horrible!). We sat down right in the middle of the front row, without even have to hurry to catch that place! After ages, the doors were officially opened and people started coming in.
The concert was amazing. We jumped, sang, screamed, everything. I knew every single song, most of them completely by heart. I suddenly felt immense joy and was extremely thankful that God always helps me when I pray for things like this one. After the show, me and the other girls went to say hello to Barry (http://barrysouthgate.com/) and I even got a picture with him. Unfortunately, we could not get a picture with Darlene. She had said yes, but her tour manager was against it.
We then went to the train station. This time without getting lost, because I could remember the way. I am actually pretty good at remembering such things! We waited for the train together and returned to Zurich. The next day I did not want to go to school. I was sooooo tired and did not want to go back to everyday life.
What I also learnt from these girls is, that the man who let me in early, was not the owner of the hall. In fact, he was the dad of the main organiser!
Now, the concert season is over. I just hope, some bands or artists decide to visit Switzerland (or Southern Germany / Western Austria) in January or February, because if I have no concert to attend, I do not know what to do!
Thank you, Darlene, for an amazing worship evening, and thank you, Hans Rhyner for making it more than awesome!
