I spent the last Summer holidays in Austria. During that time, I found out on Facebook that Hillsong Live would come to Switzerland. There, it said “Worshipnight Geneva”. Hillsong Live is an absolute must when they finally come to Switzerland! Indeed, Geneva is a bit expensive, but the train connections there are pretty good. Then, I took a closer look and saw where the worship night actually was: Oron-la-Ville. That is a one-horse town with about 1400 inhabitants that does not even have a train station. Great. In the nearest village, the last train leaves at 22:09, which is impossible to make when the concert finishes at 22 o’clock. The concert was set for a Sunday evening. Either I catch the last train, or I would miss the first two (German) lessons on Monday. But who cares about two boring German lessons when you can spend the Sunday evening with God? Come on…! Still on holidays, I started my search for an accommodation, on the computer. After two hours of searching, I still had not found anything. Okay… “Daddy, You know how I would like to attend that worship night. You know how much I want to see Hillsong Live. And You know that costs really are not a problem. But when I cannot get back to Zurich and also cannot find an accommodation, it gets difficult. I do not want to leave early. You know, the end of such evenings is always the best. Please, for You everything is possible, so find a place where I can stay!”. Then, I searched for another hour (no, I am not exaggerating any of these time informations!!!!) and behold: One single family is renting rooms! Together with a friend, I booked the tickets and the room. Anticipation inevitable for a concert freak like me!! Back home, buying the train ticket was planned. All in all, the concert would cost a bit more than 160 francs for me. That is pretty much and actually, I cannot afford it. But what would you not do to be able to worship God together with Hillsong Live… Because of unidentified reasons, I decided to tidy up my room. And look: I honestly found a voucher amounting to 50.- for the SBB (Swiss Federal Railways). Impossible! When me and my friend wanted to buy the ticket at the counter of the train station, the accountant could give us a discount on the route we wanted, so we got away even cheaper. There were still a few weeks to go, during which I prayed every evening: “Please, give me a place in the front row. Not somewhere at the side, but somewhere in the middle. You know how much fun it is to me to stand at the front, and this evening really is unbelievably important to me!”. However, my anticipation was a bit spoiled by our stupid German teacher who set an essay right for these two hours on Monday. That meant that I had to take a make-up test during my leisure time – written by hand, not on the computer. But finally, the 11 September 2011 arrived…
My friend and I decided to go to church in the morning, before leaving to Western Switzerland. The people gave us some strange looks, with all our big bags in the front row; also because we normally go there in the evening. The message made me think. After the service, we travelled to the main station, bought our food and boarded the train to Lausanne. On the journey, a friend called me and said he probably would not come because of health problems. I replied that the name of the Hillsong Live tour was “God Is Able”, and that was true. Then, I helped my friend on the train with her French homework *gg* and finally, we arrived in Lausanne. She did not like it at all that everything was written in French, but I loved it.
The regional train was easy to find and in Châtillens we searched with some help of Google Maps on the smartphone the accommodation. It was raining slightly and when we rang the bell, no one opened. We went to the next-door house and asked what to do. I had been afraid of that for the whole day, but strangely, I was able to speak French very well! The owner of our accommodation came back soon and was very friendly. She said, someone else was also staying in the flat and explained to us the breakfast for the next day. We received a key, paid and talked to the woman. That is, I talked to her, my friend did not understand a single word.
We unpacked only the most necessary things and as none of us was hungry and it was already pretty late, we left the house in t-shirts. It was pretty cold, but jumpers would only get in the way. At such important events, colds are only irrelevant matters anyway. The route to the location was easy to find and also, the other friend called to say, after all, he would come.
To be continued…
